So I had the children's sermon yesterday. As most of you know, I am known for dressing up in funny costumes around here. So I got some fishing garb on... fishing vest, pole, overalls, and the best polka-dotted pink and black rain boots a girl could get! :)
Anyway the lesson was about Jesus telling the disciples to drop their nets and follow him, that they were going to be fishing for men.
I told a story about me and my daddy (can you tell I am a daddy's girl....) in Branson, MO. He told me exactly what I needed to do and he had so much patience with me. I admired my dad, I still do, so much... but I know I looked up to him with my sweet "innocent" eyes and just thought he was the greatest for teaching me how to fish. What is even greater about it to me, is that my dad isn't the biggest fan of fishing....you are such a good man! Ok back to the story....I followed just what he told me to do and I eventually caught a fish and I was so proud... I wouldn't touch it of course but I was sooo proud (even thought it was the size of a goldfish... ha ha)
I cast my line down the center aisle of church and waited for people to grab on... after all I was following my dads instructions... of course it didn't work out so hot that way and no one grabbed on. We read Mark 1:14-20 and realized that Jesus said "drop your nets and follow me" I think this is such a valuable lesson for everyone, not just the little kids, that we have to drop what we are doing and follow our heavenly Father. He is our example just as our earthly fathers can be. He is the one who has the patience with us, He is the one that makes sure we are safe just like my dad did making sure I wore a life jacket. We can't just sit here and wait for people to come to us and ask us about Jesus, we have to care for people and listen to them just like He showed us.
I love my daddy, I admire my daddy, there are many qualities of my daddy that I hope to find in a future mate, I love that my dad has taught me about patience, about fishing, about laughing and having fun, about listening, about power tools, about making things, about not getting mad when your daughter up and decides to paint her bathroom pepto bismo pink, about camping, about doing cute and fun things to cheer other people up.... the list goes on and on..... these things are amazing and so is my dad but I wouldn't have him without Christ, I wouldn't have life without my heavenly Father and I wouldn't know how to truly live with out my heavenly father....
